Meet Matt Theodores

Matt Theodores has over 30 years of senior leadership experience with companies ranging from start-ups to some of the world's largest most complex businesses. With a skillset that spans the role of Chief Operating Officer, Matt has successfully grown existing businesses, identified expansion opportunities, led significant organizational change, and continuously improved operations. His ability to think strategically, simplify complex challenges, turn innovative ideas into action, and help teams get the right things done, has enabled success in many roles. Matt joined Practical Decisions in 2013 to make this broad experience accessible to independent businesses and nonprofit organizations across northern New England.

Most recently, Matt was General Manager of Marketing and Strategy within Microsoft's Intellectual Property and Licensing Group. In this role, he developed industry leading strategic alliances with some of Microsoft's top open source competitors. With intellectual property licensing as the foundation, these partnerships evolved to develop joint solutions enabling revenue growth of 94% over a two year period. In parallel, Matt led strategy development, organizational re-branding, updated positioning and messaging, and public relations resulting in increased awareness of Microsoft's work with the open source community. During his 10 years at Microsoft, Matt led various sales and consulting teams with great impact on clients across all industries. His leadership was instrumental in the turnaround of a $300 million business unit that went on to deliver several years of double digit revenue growth.

Prior to joining Microsoft, Matt was Senior Vice President and founding executive team member at ArcStream Solutions. Under Matt's leadership, ArcStream became a successful 35 person consulting organization delivering mobile and wireless solutions to healthcare, retail, and financial services clients. ArcStream was later acquired by Keane, a leading IT consulting firm.

Matt's experience includes 18 years at IBM where he held several management positions. This includes finance, planning and operations, the leadership of a $250 million business, and direct involvement in IBM's transformation to become a profitable customer focused solutions business.

Matt currently volunteers with several nonprofit organizations including The Center for Grieving Children, Maine Boys to Men, MSAD 51, and The Boy Scouts of America. He recently completed the Maine Association of Nonprofits (MANP) Executive Leadership Program for Executive Directors.

Matt earned a degree in business management from University of Massachusetts and completed a 12 month executive education program for IBM Leaders at Harvard Business School. He holds a Grant Writing Certificate from USM and is currently enrolled in the Muskie School for Public Service.
